iCon

Whilst at Consarc Architects, Freehaus director Tom was Project Director on the iCon centre, a beacon for environmental innovation in the UK and beyond. Tom oversaw the project through a two stage-open competition organised by the BRE / RIBA for the design of this new exemplar innovation hub and office building in Daventry.

Specialising in green technologies and sustainable construction, the building offers a high profile and supportive environment for firms at the forefront of the low carbon economy. The spatial arrangement of the scheme has been designed to maximise the potential of research processes within. Incubation units are contained to the North of the site, thereby shielded from traffic noise. These flexible, naturally ventilated spaces preserve the optimum aspect of the research facilities.

Adjacent to these facilities, and at the heart of the design is a dramatic ETFE covered street, with gallery level links. To the South, and abounding the public realm is the Showcase suite, host to large volume spaces; including reception, conferencing, meeting and catering facilities.

The multi-award winning building includes 55 first-class business units, alongside a conference centre for up to 300 people, exhibition space, and a café. As well as cutting-edge facilities, tenants benefit from expert support and advice from on-site specialists.
