Clement James Centre

We have been working with the Clement James Centre and IntoUniversity, two registered charities based in the Parish of St Clement and St James (CJ Centre), North Kensington, to improve their educational, employment and pastoral facilities.

Won through an invited competition, our role has been to set out the brief and overall design and delivery of a new £3.5 million teaching and learning facility, through the adaptation of existing spaces and extensions to the historic grade II listed built fabric. The organisation took great comfort in the fact that we have strong experience delivering architectural interventions, within Grade II, Grade II* and Grade I listed buildings.

The interventions to the space include: refurbishments to existing learning areas, light touch interventions within the historic church setting, construction of a new winter garden to bridge between the historic church and alms-house, and landscape design within a courtyard space.

Further to our appointment on the project, we have been working closely with the client team to understand the structure of their key stakeholders, funders and staff to ensure that our design brief meets with the overall aspirations.

We have used the design brief to set out a 5-year masterplan, establishing an incremental sequence of works to coincide with the two charities funding streams. We have also been actively engaged in planning the phasing of works and overall procurement to ensure the continued day-to-day operations of both charities.
